about

All songs are sonifications of social data. Each note represents a discrete data point and the outputs are unaltered except for effects and filters.

Track 1:
Using data on bitcoin to USD transactions from a particular exchange following the UK EU referendum in 2016:
tone of bells = exchange rate with USD
drums, lower to higher = the transaction amount.

Track 2:
From a set of tweets about smart watches and the internet of things:
drum machine = top 10 hashtags assigned to different parts of the kit
duration = number of followers (adjusted)
attack = retweets (adjusted)

Track 3:
A representation of the first quarter of a basketball game.
bass synth tone = which team has possession
bass synth volume = distance of ball to Celtic’s basket
harp = which player has possession

Track 4:
Payments made from shell companies to offshore bank accounts listed in Paul Manafort's indictment.
Bells = time passing in days, with a different tone on alternating weeks
Strings pitch = payers (left channel) to payees (right channel)
Strings volume = amount
Strings duration = distance between countries

Track 5:
Based on electoral college votes coming in on the night of the US election 2016:
tone = spread between Clinton and trump
volume = number of votes per state
time = announced results
